Long time Senate watchers are privately aghast at how badly Senate President Mike Miller lost it while driving through the gun bill. He belittled staff from the podium and achieved parliamentary victory not by power of reason but by reason of power. The Senate’s decorum was ultimately restored, but many fear Miller confused the embarrassed silence afterwards as being respect at his prowess. Most just thought he looked old.
The legislature recently named its new Senate Office Building (now under construction) after Mike Miller. One administrator confided: "When people start naming things after you while you’re still in office, it’s time to take the hint while you have some dignity left."
